Have you ever looked back at a period in your life and said to yourself: "If I could do it all over again, it would be soooo different"? I did - almost immediately after graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2007. University was supposed to have been a time of great exploration and discovery but working up to 30 hours a week to pay for it and my inability to admit that I HATED my program sucked the life out of the whole experience.
I tried to put the disappointment of the "greatest years of my life" behind me but it pretty much set the tone for the next 5 years.
By the summer of 2012, at the ripe old age of 27, I realized that I had completely stagnated as a professional and individual. Something had to be done. It was time to go back to school and get the fire back. It was time to be creative. It was time to learn and explore the way I should have the first time around. Over the course of a weekend in August, I decided to roll the dice and take a chance on myself.
10 years after starting university as a naive 17 year old, I started my second undergraduate degree as a "mature" student.
This blog is my take on how both university and I have changed, and how we are still more the same as ever.
I am Charlotte Nesbitt, and I am a mature student.
